Memory Theater

Memory Theater

Memory Theater

Memory Theater is a Filipinx dream/synthpop artist based in Oakland. Their music explores how memories – both individual & collective – influence our present and future lived realities, framing how we process and perpetually regurgitate/reconfigure our experiences through the projector screens of past feelings, thoughts, and dreams, which are always enmeshed with and distinguished according to race, gender, class, etc.

Their music is intrigued with how memory can be a harrowing and painful experience , and can immobilize growth & lock oneself into destructive + repetitious patterns due to generational and interpersonal trauma. but also how memory — such as collective cultural memory — interweaves with our deepest imaginative powers, and can help us reconnect to our unique spiritualities/identities/communities. Their music looks at how memories can encircle our dreams & act as a source for creating moments, however infinitesimal, of reprieve and joy, & reawaken wonder and belief in life.

She-Nut

Memory Theater

Memory Theater

She-Nut a solo music project by Juicebox P. Burton is a lyrical love letter to a black woman’s backbone. It chronicles the endless strength we endure to hold up our community. This project is an anthem of negro noise, and it’s never ending battle against white supremacy. At its foundation is gospel, a centerpiece of resistance and the power that resides in acapella hymns only accompanied by the marching of women’s heels. She-Nut then knocks on the doors of Motown, emulating the essence of black capitalism, pride and self expression. Finally, She-Nut is portaled into a present day, where the internet documentation of the new Jim Crow is on loop. Exhausted from the attack on our bodies and the murder of our kind. She-Nut spits verses into the mouths of bigotry, declaring that WOMEN SHOULD NUT FIRST! In our struggle for happiness, the world needs to prioritize our existence. We are tired of standing and our backs are broken and full of scars. We deserve affirmation, love, pampering, and honestly an orgasm wouldn’t hurt.

Zero Charisma

Tavishi Sarmistha Talukdar is a multi-instrumentalist composer, audio-visual artist, and scientist. They often reflect on the socio-political issues of feminism, intersectionality, and non-conformity. Through their art, they seek to connect with their audience, while navigating between logic and emotion, traditional and modern, the East and the West. Their personal aim as artist is to amalgamate science, art and music in a form, that engages the audience, compels them towards action instead of apathy, as well as provides space for catharsis, nostalgia and dreams. Tavishi is their solo sound project where they use disparate elements (scientific research data, Indian classical and folk music, western noise, ambient and industrial elements) to create noise and drone-based compositions, often to raise awareness about social issues.
